After the protests against the government in Bangladesh last year, Sheikh Hasina’s party has a very bad condition in the country. After the coup on August 5 last year, Sheikh Hasina was forced to leave the country. Since then, his party Awami League is now being shattered. The party is banned in the country.
General elections have been proposed in Bangladesh in 2026. On the other hand, Awami League is taking out a procession in the capital Dhaka. On September 16 in Shyamoli area, the banned Awami League suddenly took out a procession. During this time the police detained many people. Police has so far detained many people from the Awami League procession.
44000 workers arrested
The police have meanwhile in the meantime, how many people have been arrested throughout the year (from August 5 last year till 3 September this year). A police report with the name of arrest and bail of the persons involved in the passers says that in these 13 months, the number of arrests of such persons is 44,472. That is, in these 13 months, more than 44 thousand Awami League workers have been arrested. Of these, 32,371 have been granted bail. That is, about 73 percent of the total accused have been granted bail.
Sources in the police headquarters said that these accused were arrested in separate cases, who were involved in anti-discrimination student agitation, processions or after the collapse of Sheikh Hasina government. Some of them are officials, while there are some people who were accused of being an associate of Awami League or the government of that time.
Cases registered under terrorism
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) data shows that 97 cases in the capital in relation to illegal processions and programs of Awami League and its associate organizations and banned students League were registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act. 1,123 people were arrested in these cases. Of these, 403 have already got bail.
Meanwhile, on 24 September, Awami League’s march was also prepared. On receiving information about the preparation of March, the police immediately became active. The police took the front at various places. Later 244 people were arrested during the Flame March.
Where how much arrest happened
After August 5, most of the 8 ranges related to Awami League activities were made in Chittagaon. In 13 months, 7,823 people were arrested in this range. Of these, 6,275 (80%) got bail. The lowest arrests took place in the Silhat range – 1,398, out of which 1,174 (about 84%) got bail.

Dhaka: 7,355 arrested, 4,806 (65%) bail
Rajshahi: 5,018 arrested, bail on 4,221 (84%)
Open: 5,992 arrested, 4,554 (76%) bail
Barisal: 1,776 arrested, bail on 1,555 (88%)
Rangpur: 3,891 arrested, 2,714 (70%) bail
Mimensingh: 3,036 arrested, bail on 1,443 (48%)
Meeting on getting bail
Meanwhile, there was a meeting about how the arrested people are getting bail so soon. In the meeting of 14 September, a four -member committee was constituted under the chairmanship of a joint secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs to monitor the issue of bail. Sources in the committee said that it will include Law Ministry, Attorney General’s office and police representatives. The committee will investigate how the people arrested in anti-terrorism cases are getting bail so soon.
