The High Court has stayed the effigy of Sonam Raghuvanshi with Ravana on Dussehra. The institution called Purush had announced the burning of the effigy of Sonam Raghuvanshi as Ravana on the occasion of Vijayadashami at the fair ground of Mahalakshmi Nagar. Sonam came into the limelight when her husband Raja was killed during a honeymoon in Shillong. Sonam is the main accused in this murder.
Sonam’s mother knocked on the door
After the latest announcement of effigy burning, Sonam’s mother Sangeeta Raghuvanshi took refuge in the High Court against it. The court said that burning the effigy of Sonam will be violated by the fundamental rights of her and her relatives. No such act can be allowed in the democratic system. Along with this, the court has banned the burning of effigy of anyone other than Ravana in the event of Vijayadashami.
With the announcement of Ravana Dahan in Indore, the organizers of the Paurush Sanstha had said that 11 heads of effigies are planned. Every head or face will be put on the face of women from Firozabad, Meerut, Rajasthan, Bangalore, Dewas, Dwarka with Sonam Raghuvanshi of Indore, who are accused of killing her husband or forcing her husband to commit suicide in a different way.
What did the court say
Sonam’s mother had filed a petition in the High Court and said that burning effigies would be like public harassment for her family. Sonam may have a criminal case registered, but the matter is in court and she has not been proved guilty. The court ordered that doing so would be completely unacceptable. Even though there is a criminal case on someone, burning his effigy, publicly damaging his image, is against the constitution and law. Along with this, the Collector, Police Commissioner and other responsibilities have been instructed to make proper arrangements to stop such an event.
