Politics in the state has intensified due to controversy and police action in the campaign of ‘I Love Mohammed’ in Bareilly. While many organizations and rights groups have criticized the move, calling it an attempt to intimidate the Muslim community and suppress the protests, Congress MP Imran Masood said on Saturday that mosques are for namaz, not for violence on the road.
Talking to reporters in Saharanpur, Masood appealed to the Muslims to show love for them by following Mohammed’s principles, not a ruckus on the streets.
Masood’s statement came after the appeal of Maulana Tauqir Raza in which he called the people to Islamia Ground in the city to submit a memorandum to the President in protest against the action being taken across the country against ‘I Love Mohammed’. People going to Islamia Ground were stopped by the police on the way, after which these demonstrations became violent.
Mosques for Namaz, not for violence- Imran Masood
Speaking on the crowd that came out for Islamia Ground after the prayers of Jumme on Friday, Imran Masood said, “Mosques are for Namaz, not for violence on the road. Every Muslim loves Mohammed and there is no need to create a ruckus to express it.”
The MP said, “I love Mohammed. Mohammed is the purpose of my life. True love is in following his principles and ideals, not to create a ruckus on the streets.”
Why ‘I Love Mohammed’ campaign started?
According to the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR), the police action started on the banners written in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has now turned into nationwide action.
This action started after an FIR recorded during the procession of Baravafat in Kanpur. Where the police had registered a case for putting the banner of ‘I Love Mohammed’. In protest against this move of the police, the ‘I Love Mohammed’ campaign spread to many cities of the country, after which the police have registered more complaints and dozens of arrests have been made.
Mohammed preached humanity- Imran Masood
Referring to the clashes during the ‘I Love Mohammed’ campaign, the Congress leader said that it is not appropriate under any circumstances. He said that Mohammed had preached humanity, not violence, but it should be stopped. He also said that Maulanas should also stop and stop it.

In response to a question on Dussehra, Masood said that this festival is a symbol of the victory of truth, but the bandage has been removed from the eyes of the goddess of justice. He said that those who are trying to raise their voice are being tried to suppress their voice.
Maulana Tauqir Raza arrested
Bareilly police arrested Maulana Tauqir Raza along with seven other people on Saturday. A day earlier, he was kept under house arrest along with eight others. At the same time, the police have registered 10 FIRs in various police stations across the district against the violence on Friday.
According to officials, every FIR has the names of 150-200 people, and collectively hundreds of people have been booked under various provisions of the Indian Code (BNS) 2023.
