In Bishnupur district of Manipur, militants ambushed the Assam Rifles contingent on Friday evening. In this attack, Ranjit Kumar Kashyap, a soldier of Balnga village Upayagudapara in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, and a junior commission officer (JCO) of Assam Rifles were sacrificed.

33 Assam Rifles Naib Subedar Shyam Gurung (58) and Rifleman Ranjit Singh Kashyap (29) were sacrificed in the attack. Three other soldiers are seriously injured. The condition of one of them is critical.

Not even five days returned from leave

Villagers said that Ranjit came home on leave last month. For about a month, he spent time with the family and returned to duty only five days in advance.

He had told his colleagues that there are three years left of service, after which he would retire and return to the village and be the support of his parents. But destiny had something else.

Family members said that Ranjit wanted to go to the army from the beginning and protect the country. Having fulfilled the same dream, he was admitted to Assam Rifles. She has three daughters, while the sister is also married to a BSF jawan.
