Nepal celebrated Constitution Day after Zen-Z movement, Sushila Karki vowed to fight corruption

Nepal’s interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki addressed the program organized on the occasion of Constitution Day. He said that it is the responsibility of all Nepali citizens to protect and implement the constitution adopted 10 years ago. Karki said that the recent Gen-Z movement was the result of the discontent and expectations of the younger generation. The government is committed to listening to the voice of the people and solving their problems.

Karki promised to fight corruption, create jobs and raise the standard of living of citizens. Constitution Day is celebrated as National Day in Nepal. However, compared to previous years, the programs were organized on a small scale this year. Violence took place during the performance of Jane-Z protesters in Nepal last week. During this time 72 people were killed. Karki became Prime Minister on 12 September.

Election in Nepal on 5 March 2026

With Karki becoming the PM, the political uncertainty in the country ended after the Prime Minister’s P. Sharma Oli’s post after the youth -led agitation against corruption and the ban on social media. Elections will be held here on 5 March 2026.

Apart from Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Chief Guest President Ramchandra Paudel, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, Rashtriya Sabha President Narayan Prasad Dahal also attended the Constitution Day program.

President Paudel said that the current Constitution has tied the Nepali society with ethnic, linguistic, religious, cultural and geographical diversity to eliminate all discrimination and repression from the centralized Raj system and tied it in widespread national unity. He also called upon all the Nepali people to unite to realize the aspirations of peace, good governance, development and prosperity through the federal democratic republic system.

Jane-Z convened rally

A group of Zen-Z organized a rally in Maitijhar Mandla. This is the same place where protests took place on 8 and 9 September.

Nepal’s main political parties Nepal Communist Party-Leninist (CPN-UML) and Nepal Communist Party-Maoist Center also organized separate programs at their party headquarters in Kathmandu on Constitution Day. Former Prime Minister Pushp Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ addressed the program in the Central Office of the Maoist Center Party. Former Prime Minister Oli was not present in his party’s program.
