India’s right -hand fast bowler Mohammed Shami admitted that he had thoughts of committing suicide, but he rejected the idea as he realized that cricket had given him a lot. Expressing his views in the episode of AAP’s court with Rajat Sharma, the Indian star fast bowler said, ‘Thought it definitely happened, it is thankful or else the World Cup would have missed me because when I thought this is the time of life in my mind, for the end of life, for whom the media is behind me, the media for which the media is behind me, left it in the process of this jump… that thought, I thought of love. Thought let’s leave it, let’s look in the game then… ‘
In July this year, the Calcutta High Court directed Shami to give a monthly alimony of Rs 4 lakh in the form of maintenance of his wife Haseen Jahan and daughter as maintenance. Jahan will have to pay Rs 1.50 lakh per month while the daughter will get Rs 2.50 lakh per month. Former model Haseen Jahan married Mohammed Shami in 2014. The couple had a daughter in 2015. Mohammed Shami and Haseen Jahan Jahan separated in 2018 when they accused him of domestic violence.
Asked about the derogatory things said on social media after allegations of domestic violence, Shami replied, ‘Bad things are said, but nowadays they are also talked about which do not exist… I am afraid of this most. Yesterday I was watching a picture and I did not know when I had pulled him. In the last 6-7 years, the allegations that I have made on me may not have been so much allegations against any terrorist. I can’t do anything in it. ‘
Haseen Jahan accused the cricketer of domestic violence in 2018. He filed a petition in Alipur court accused Shami and his family of harassment. Jahan had demanded Rs 7 lakh per month from the fast bowler for the maintenance of the family. Shami last played a competitive match for Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Indian Premier League (IPL) on 2 May. That match was not memorable for this fast bowler, as he did not get any wicket against Gujarat Titans and conceded 48 runs in three overs.
Shami Jaspreet was leading India’s fast bowling attack in the absence of Jaspreet Bumrah in the Champions Trophy campaign. He was the highest wicket -taking bowler for India, he took 9 wickets in 5 matches, he was accompanied by Mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty who took the same number of wickets in just three matches. India won the title by defeating New Zealand in the final thanks to Shami’s efforts. He played the last Test cricket for India in England against Australia in 2023. It will now be interesting to see whether Shami is included in the team for the domestic series against the West Indies and the white ball series against Australia.
