Kalashtami fast and worship method
Take a bath in the morning on Kalashtami and take a posture at the place of worship from pure mind (Kalashtami 2025). First of all purify from Ganga water and install the statue or picture of Lord Bhairav in the east or north direction.
Then offer fruits, flowers, incense-lamps, sandalwood, roli, black sesame, urad dal, mustard oil and sweets. During the puja, keep chanting the mantra of Lord Bhairav ”Om Kalabhairavaya Namah”. Also recite their story and Aarti. Mustard oil is considered to be the most auspicious for lighting a lamp.
Chanting Kalashtami Mantra
In this fast, there is a tradition of chanting mantras with the garland of Rudraksha. You can chant any of these mantras according to your reverence –
- Om Bhairavaya Namah
- Om Kalabhairavi Namah
- Om Hr Batuk Bhairavay Namah
- ॐ Bhram Kalabhairavayi Phat
- ॐ Hr Batukay Apaduddharanay Kuru Kuru Batukay
Special measures of Kalashtami
- Offer Urad pakoras or dumplings to Lord Bhairav on the fast.
- Feed milk, bread or biscuits to the black dog considered to be a ride of Bhairav Baba.
- Reciting Kalabhairavashtak Stotra on Kalashtami gives special results.
- After chanting Bhairav Mantra for 40 consecutive days after worship, his grace is definitely received.
Religious importance of worshiping Lord Bhairav
According to religious belief, Lord Bhairav is Rudravatar of Mahadev (Kalashtami 2025). By worshiping them, a person does not fear enemies and brings self -power, courage and prosperity in life. Kalashtami fast has been considered as a factor of freedom from crises and spiritual progress.
