Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone have been given interim relief in the matter of misleading consumers through a car advertisement. In the complaint filed in Bharatpur, both the stars as well as company officials were also named and they were held responsible for the alleged flaws in the Hyundai vehicle.
A local car owner Kirti Singh lodged an FIR earlier this month, claiming that he had a financial loss after purchasing a bad car. He alleged that Shah Rukh and Deepika’s advertisements played a role in their decision to buy their car. The names of six officers of the company are also registered in the FIR.
Shahrukh and Deepika get relief from court
Shah Rukh and Deepika immediately moved to the Rajasthan High Court and demanded the cancellation of the FIR. On behalf of Shah Rukh, Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal said that the superstar has no direct relation with the complaint. He insisted, “Promotion does not mean the responsibility of construction standards.” On behalf of Deepika Padukone, advocate Madhav Mitra also argued that her work was limited to brand promotion only.

The defense said that Kirti Singh had used the vehicle for about three years before registering the complaint and had run more than 67,000 kilometers. He argued that if he had any problem, he should have gone to the consumer court. Judge Sudesh Bansal, who is hearing the case in Jodhpur, said that there is no factual basis in the FIR. The court has now stayed the FIR against all the accused, including two Bollywood stars and six officers of the company and fixed the next hearing on 25 September. Let me tell you, Shah Rukh Khan has been Hyundai’s face since 1998. Deepika Padukone joined the company in December 2023 and last year both appeared together in an ed in Hyundai.
