Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has got a big relief from Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court. The court today rejected the petition accusing Sonia’s name in the voter list 3 years before becoming an Indian citizen today. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Vaibhav Chaurasia of the court dismissed this petition.
On behalf of complainant Vikas Tripathi, Senior Advocate Pawan Narang said on September 10 that in January 1980, Sonia Gandhi’s name was added as a voter of New Delhi constituency, while she did not become a citizen of India then.
Why Sonia’s name removed from voter list in 1982
The petition also said, “First you have to complete the process of citizenship, only then you can become a resident of some area.” He said that in 1980, the proof of residence was probably a ration card and passport.
He said, “If Sonia Gandhi was a citizen of India, why her name was removed in 1982? At that time the Election Commission had removed 2 names, one of Sanjay Gandhi, who died in one plane crash, while the other name was of Sonia Gandhi.” Fearing disturbances, Senior Advocate said that then the Election Commission must have found something wrong in this matter, then his name was removed from the voter list.
Demand to direct the police to investigate in the petition
Pawan Narang said during the hearing on September 4 before the court that Sonia Gandhi’s name was included in the voter list of New Delhi constituency in 1980, but it was removed in 1982 and then after acquiring Indian citizenship in 1983, it was again recorded in the voter list after acquiring Indian citizenship. The petition was filed under Section 175 (4) (power to order an inquiry to the magistrate) of the Indian Civil Protection Code (BNSS), demanding the police to investigate the allegation that Sonia became a citizen of India in 1983, but her name was included in the 1980 voter list.
In this case, he claimed some forgery and fraud with the public authority. Narang said before the court, “I only request that the police should be instructed to register an FIR under appropriate sections.” In the petition, it was demanded to direct the Delhi Police that the police should register a case and investigate the case and file their status report on the investigation.
