The Indian team has started preparations for the Asia Cup. India’s first match will be on 10 September with UAE. Prior to this tournament, Sunil Gavaskar has made several suggestions about the playing XI and believes that during the Asia Cup, the selection committee will have to beam the final-11. The Indian team is full of options in the T20 team and due to this some players may have to sit on the bench. Gavaskar has also said that one of Rinku Singh and Shivam Dubey will have to wait for their opportunity.
Shubman Gill is back to India’s T20 team and has directly in the role of leadership. The 25-year-old opener has been appointed as the vice-captain for the Asia Cup 2025. Sunil Gavaskar said that there is a possibility of the team’s balance and spin all -rounder Akshar Patel to sit outside one of Rinku Singh or Shivam Dubey.
Gavaskar believes that one of Rinku Singh or Shivam Dubey may have to sit outside. He said, “And Akshar Patel is also likely to play as a left -handed batsman in this team and he can also bowl four overs. It seems that batsmen like Rinku and Shivam may have to wait a little before getting a chance. ,
He feels that Akshar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are two spinners starting and third expert fast bowler Harshit Rana will get a place in the team. He said, “I think they will not extend batting till number eight and will focus on the bowlers. Perhaps Kuldeep at number eighth and then at number ninth, tenth, eleventh, your three fast bowlers.
Gavaskar also clarified that Jaspreet Bumrah would not have any problem related to the charge as he would bowl only four overs per match and that too in two or three spells. He said, “In this Asia Cup, there is only four overs bowling and that too not four overs simultaneously. So I do not think they will have any problem in playing in this tournament. There will be no problem for them. ,
There was some doubt about the availability of Bumrah due to the domestic Test series against the West Indies in October soon after the Asia Cup. Sony Sports Network is the official broadcaster of the Asia Cup 2025. India has to play a lot of T20 cricket before the World Cup to be held on the home ground next year. After the Asia Cup, India will play 15 more matches of this format before the T20 World Cup.
