This year, Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra started in Puri, Odisha from 27 June, which was completed on 5 July after running for 9 days. Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra were chariots in the yatra. The construction of all three chariots of 45 feet prepared in 58 days begins with Akshaya Tritiya. To make this, wood is brought from the forests of Odisha. Who breaks the chariot?
The traditional process of breaking the chariots in front of the lion in Jagannath Dham has started. Bhagwan returns to temples before breaking the chariot. After this, on the orders of Shrimandi and administration, nine bhoi servants under the leadership of Bhoi Sardar are busy breaking the chariot. After the completion of the Rath Yatra in Jagannath Dham Puri, the tradition of breaking the three chariots has started. First of all, the Devdalan chariot of Goddess Subhadra is broken.
It takes 12 to 15 days to break the chariot
During this time, many parts from Kalash to mercury fare and Dwarbeda are removed. In the next phase, the taldhwaj chariot of Sribalbhadra and the Nandighosh chariot of Mahaprabhu Sreejgannath are broken. Bhoi Sardar Ravi Bhoi said that the process of breaking the chariot is started only after coconut puja (Nadiya Mahrad). It takes about 4 to 5 days to break a chariot completely. In this way, the work of the three chariots will be completed in 12 to 15 days.
The remaining wood is used in the kitchen
Under special arrangements, all parts including throne, Prabha, Natgod, Goose and Chakra will be kept in the chariot godown near Masani Chandi temple. The Shrimandir administration informed that devotees will be able to buy the chariot cycle, Asuari and Goose through the auction process. At the same time, according to tradition, 12 Dwarbeda of the three chariots will be provided to the Maharana servants. Kartik Bhoi, the head of Nandighosh Rath, said that after breaking the chariot, the remaining wood will be used as a firewood in the closet kitchen, which will prepared food for about six to seven months.
Wheel auction
During this time, there is an eagerness among the devotees to get the thorny wood of the Devdalan chariot. It is believed that applying it in the courtyard of the house brings happiness and peace. However, the administration clarified that no wood or thorns would be given to anyone. The most precious part of the chariot is the wheel, which is auctioned. Its initial bid is fixed at 50 thousand rupees, which later reaches millions. There is a lot of competition among devotees to buy wheels.
