The mask of cannabis fell from Shivling in Mahakal temple of Ujjain
There is a world famous Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. A video here is going viral. In the temple, when the priests were decorating with cannabis on the Shivling of Baba Mahakal at 8 pm on August 18, 2025 (Monday), then suddenly the mask broke down. After this, the priests immediately decorated and performed the aarti. Jyotishacharya is calling it a sign of an unnatural event, while the knowledgeer of religion is talking about abandoning cannabis on behalf of Mahakal himself.
Amar Trivedi, Jyotishacharya of Ujjain, says that this is a sign of an unnatural event. There are two different opinions behind this incident. He accepts whatever material he likes and if there is no error or reverence in any material or is not made with a good mindset, or there is no effect of religion in it, then they abandon the material. At the same time, when you talk about science, stones have their own humidity. The stones contain internal humidity and internal heat. When the cannabis with external humidity and heat is applied on the stone, sometimes there is a possibility of falling. At the same time, the pandas and pujari of Mahakal temple and the temple committee were seen to avoid saying anything about this incident.
What does the scripture say about Shivling with cannabis?
Dr. Mohan Gupta, former Vice Chancellor of Maharishi Panini Ved Vidya Sansthan and former Divisional Commissioner, said that there is no mention of cannabis adornment on Shivling in Hinduism in any scripture. This has been opposed from the beginning. Cannabis should not be decorated on the Shivling of Mahakal. There is no mention in Shiva Purana and Linga Purana. There has been no such tradition. The decoration of the Shivling is caused by the adornment of cannabis. For several hours, the cannabis on the Shivling causes erosion.
According to Dr. Mohan Gupta, Pandit priests are not accepting the basis of scripture. Now Shringar has fallen on its own. It is an indication that Mahakal himself is not accepting it. The decoration of cannabis is not appropriate. It should be closed. Now the administration and Pandit priest should think. This is not appropriate.
The Supreme Court gave instructions to Mahakal temple committee
In the year 2020, while hearing a petition filed on the erosion of Shivling, the Supreme Court gave clear instructions to the Mahakal Mandir Committee. The court had asked to control Panchamrit in fixed quantity and control the use of other materials including cannabis. Despite this, the instructions are not being fully followed in the present time. It is believed that the mask fell due to more cannabis on the Shivling.
