Indian team fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah played just three matches in the recently concluded Test series against England. Jaspreet Bumrah did not play in two Tests due to the charge management. Despite playing three Tests, he was the fourth bowler to take the most wickets. However, during the series, he could not perform as expected in some innings and was seen battling to take wickets and that is why former India cricketer Irfan Pathan has said that Jaspreet Bumrah did not live up to the standards of being the number one bowler during the series in England.
Former Indian cricketer -turned -commentator Irfan Pathan has said that Jasprit Bumrah did not meet the standards of being the number one bowler during the series in England. Jasprit Bumrah took 14 wickets in 5 innings in three matches of the five -match Test. Bumrah hit 119.4 overs in three Tests. In the fourth Test, he conceded more than 100 runs in his career for the first time in Manchester. Irfan said that even though his name was recorded on the honor board, he could not meet the expectations of the number one bowler.
Irfan Pathan said on his YouTube channel, “Honestly, when he plays, he has performed. He took five wickets halls and his name was recorded on the board. But when you are the number one bowler, he is expected to perform number one level and I think he could not live up to him.”
He added, “There were some moments during the match when the sixth over was needed, I also said this during the commentary. Joe he dismissed the route 11 times and Bumrah put five overs in the Lord’s Test, just one more over, sixth, and could be insisted.
In the absence of Bumrah, Siraj performed strongly. Siraj, who played a key role in drawing series 2-2 by winning India by six runs in the fifth and last Test against England, took nine wickets in the last match and 23 wickets in the series. He took 185.3 overs in five Tests.
