In the Clean Survekshan 2024-25 of the Government of India, Chhattisgarh has once again registered a strong presence at the national level. The result of the excellent performance of the urban bodies of the state is that this time 115 cities of the 169 cities in the survey have made significant improvements in their ranking. In this national evaluation of cleanliness, 25 cities of Chhattisgarh have been included in the top-100 among 4,566 cities across the country, which is a big jump compared to the previous year, when only 16 cities were able to come in the top-100.
The state’s 62 urban bodies have increased their status in the garbage-free city star rating. Whereas the number of cities receiving single, three and five stars has increased from 71 to 114. Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, has gained the highest rating of Seven Star from five star this time. Raipur has received this honor in the Garbage-Free City category, as well as in cleanliness, he has also got the status of water plus city.
3 municipal corporations in water plus category
This time Bilaspur, Korba and Bhilai Nagar- These three municipal corporations have increased from ODF Plus Plus to water plus category. The state’s 163 urban bodies have received the status of ODF Plus Plus, including bodies like Kirandul and Bhatapara Municipality and Kunra Nagar Panchayat, which were earlier only in the ODF category. Sitapur Nagar Panchayat has also moved ahead of ODF Plus and achieved ODF Plus Plus status.
In the last one and a half years, 62 urban bodies have improved the garbage-free city star rating through their continuous efforts. Bilaspur and Ambikapur have increased their three star levels to five stars, while Bhilai Nagar, Jagdalpur Municipal Corporation, Jamul Municipality and Gharghoda Nagar Panchayat have now received three stars, moving ahead of single star status of 2023-24. At the same time, cities like Dhamtari, Shibrinarayan and Rajpur, which were not in the star rating in the previous survey, have entered the three star category directly. Due to special efforts in the field of cleanliness and beautification, 52 urban bodies of the state have now upgraded from no star to get single star status.
Many cities improved ranking
Bhilai-Charoda improved his ranking from 587 to 68, Dornapal 557 to 81, Dantewada 552 to 70, Jagdalpur 461 to 55, Mungeli 447 to 86, Qawardha 430 to 77, Kunkuri 426 to 84, Durg has 314 to 80, Rajnandgaon has 268 to 267, Bhilai Nagar From 22, Chura 230 to 76, Pratappur from 173 to 62, Balrampur has increased 65 to 53 and Raipur has increased from 12th rank to fourth place.
Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has described this achievement of the cities of the state as the result of the collective efforts of local bodies and citizens. He said that the urban government, state government and central government together are constantly trying to make cities clean and beautiful with innovations. He expressed confidence that in the coming time, the ranking of the cities of Chhattisgarh will improve further and this time the national success will inspire all the urban bodies more.
Appreciation of urban bodies
Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration and Development Minister Arun Saw appreciated the urban bodies who excelled in the survey and said that in the financial year 2024-25, an amount of Rs 7,400 crore was released by the state government for urban development and cleanliness, which is getting to see this positive result.
He said that the department had directed the commissioners of all the municipal corporations and the chief municipal officials of the municipalities and the Nagar Panchayats to visit the cleaning work daily with their subordinate staff and regularly monitor the cleaning works. He said that both these initiatives of the department have played an important role in this achievement.
