17 families living on the Mission Hospital Campus have got some relief from the High Court. The court has given 30 days of time on the order of the district administration to vacate the campus in 48 hours, so that the families can organize themselves in this rainy season.
In fact, the district administration had instructed the families living there to vacate the house within just 48 hours after the acquisition of the Mission Hospital Complex. These families petitioned the High Court against this order.
The petition was heard in the single bench of Justice Arvind Kumar Verma. The court said that the petitioners can appeal to the SDM if they want, which is the right way to law. However, the court has granted 30 days of time in view of rain and human situation. Also clarified that after this period the administration will be free to take action.
Those who filed the petition include Shanti Dani, Amita Christ, Shahid Hussain, Vineet Christ, Shanta Brown and Arshad Hussain among others. He says that they have been paying electricity bills and municipal tax regularly and the notice of eviction was given to them without giving them a chance to hear. He alleged that the administration has ignored the rules of Section 248 of the Chhattisgarh Land Revenue Code.
Now these families have a month to put forward their point and appeal to the SDM if needed. However, the court has also made it clear that after the time has passed, the administration will be allowed to take eviction action.
