Sand sacks kept in metro for trial
Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, is now going to get the gift of metro service soon. The Metro Corporation has stepped up its preparation. The test of the track and braking system of the metro has been successfully completed. During the testing, the sacks filled with sand were kept in the bogies equal to about 1800 passengers to simulate the weight of passengers in the metro.
The test was conducted on the main line from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS between July 9 to July 21. The metro was run at a speed of 90 km per hour and the emergency braking system was evaluated. In a metro coach, 250 passengers can travel and travel by sitting 50 passengers. During the test, the braking system was evaluated on the basis of double weight.
RDSO conducted technical investigation
During this period, the expert team of RDSO (Research Design and Standards Organization) conducted a thorough testing of technical points like the stability of the metro, ride quality and emergency braking distance (EBD). This data will play an important role in providing security certification and technical approval for the metro for commercial operations.
After analyzing the test, RDSO will submit its report in the next 20 days. After this, the team of Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will come to Bhopal, which will perform the final inspection. If everything is found to be right, then in October 2025, service for passengers will be started on the priority corridor of Bhopal Metro.
First route from AIIMS to Karond
The first route of Bhopal Metro is from AIIMS to Karond, which is 16.05 km in length. The work of this project started in the year 2018. Out of this, 6.22 km long part from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS has been prepared as priority corridor. This part includes major stations like Subhash Nagar, RKMP, Alkapuri, DRM and AIIMS.
Along with the metro track, load testing of both steel bridges has also been completed. Now only final approval and inspection remains. Metro management claims that by October, the dream of Bhopal Metro will become a reality.
