The college administration has taken strict steps after allegations of alleged gender harassment and indecency with 80 nursing girls at Shyam Shah Medical College in Rewa. Senior doctor Mohammad Ashraf of ENT department has been suspended. This action has brought some relief to girl students and protesting organizations.

The matter came to light when about 80 nursing students associated with the college were made serious allegations against ENT expert Dr. Ashraf posted at Gandhi Smriti Hospital. The students said that doctors misbehave with them. Use abusive language and mentally oppressed. The college administration came into action after this charge came to light.

In view of the safety of the girl students, the principal of the nursing college stopped them from going to the ENT department. In view of the seriousness of the case, the college management constituted an inquiry committee. Which was investigating the whole incident. Meanwhile, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) also came in support of the girl students. Council workers performed strongly in the college campus and demanded suspension of Dr. Ashraf. The protesters had clearly stated that the protest will continue till the accused doctor takes action.

Ultimatum was given for 10 days

The college administration assured the protesters to take appropriate action in 10 days. Within the scheduled deadline, the administration has now suspended Dr. Ashraf. Speaking to the media, Dr. Sunil Aggarwal, the college’s dean, said that the matter has been taken seriously and Dr. Ashraf has been suspended on the basis of the investigation report.

This incident raises serious questions related to the safety and respect of girl students in medical education institutions. Although the girl students have been relieved to some extent at the moment, but now everyone’s eyes are on further action and judicial investigation.
