The aggressive batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi (14) was dismissed cheaply, while Mhatre, who struggled in the ODI series, laid the foundation of a big score by scoring 102 runs with the help of 14 fours and two sixes off 115 balls. He added 173 runs for the second wicket with Vihan Malhotra (67).

After the pair returned to the pavilion, Abhigyan Kundu (90 off 95 balls) and Rahul Kumar (85 from 81 balls) missed out on completing their respective centuries, but he bats offered to close the team to close to 400 runs. Both added 179 runs in just 27.4 overs for the fifth wicket. While Kundu hit 10 fours and a six, Kumar performed more aggressively with 14 fours and a six.
For England, Michael Vaughan’s son Archie Vaughan took two wickets with Mhatre with his off-brake bowling. However, the Indian batsmen scored 108 runs in 17 overs against him. At the end of the day’s play, RS Ambareesh 31 and Henil Patel were present at the crease scoring six runs.
