The National Medical Commission (NMC) has ordered all the government, private and deemed universities of the country to make the complete information about the course -wise fees of their institutions and the stipend given to the intern, junior resident and senior residents.
This instruction has also been given at a time when the Supreme Court had expressed concern about hiding fees by medical colleges in two different decisions and not giving stipend in internship. NMC has made it clear that all institutions will have to submit their fees and stipend information through Google Form within 7 days from the date of issuance of notice, so that clear information can be available to all students and parents. It has also been warned that any hidden or additional fees will be considered unauthorized without approval, and tough steps can be taken on show causes, penalty, ban on admission, and cancellation of courses. The purpose of this step is not only to increase transparency and accountability in the education system, but also to protect the students from hidden fees and exploitative internship conditions.
Significantly, NMC, which was formed in 2020 in place of the Medical Council of India. It is the top regulatory body of medical education and medical practice in India. Its job is to set the standard of education, monitor colleges and doctors, and to suggest as per national health needs.
