There was not even a ruckus about the rape allegations of a law student at Law College, Kolkata. Now in Kolkata, the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM Joka) has been taken to the hostel of boys and allegedly raping a young woman. The accused has been arrested on the complaint of the victim. According to police sources, the accused is a second year student of IIM Joka.
Allegedly, the victim was taken to the boys’ hostel in the name of counseling. There he was given to eat pizza. She fainted after eating her. When he regained consciousness, he saw that he was in the boys’ hostel. The victim alleged that she was raped in an unconscious state.
On Friday, the victim went to Thakurpukur police station to file a complaint first. There the police asked him to go to Haridevpur police station, because IIM comes under that police station. With the help of the police, the woman went to Haridevpur police station on Friday and lodged a complaint against the accused student.
The police went to the spot and collected evidence. After this, the police arrested the accused. Later, the police presented the accused in court. The court ordered the accused youth to be kept in police custody till 19 July.
What allegations in the victim’s complaint
In a written complaint submitted to the police, the victim said that she was IIM to consult the accused at 11:45 am on Friday. The accused took him inside the boys’ hostel. According to the statement, the woman was given pizza and water to eat there. It was alleged that there was some adulteration in the food. The victim told that after eating that food, her head started moving. It is alleged that during this time when he was vomited, he was not allowed to go to the toilet.
According to the victim’s written statement, the accused suddenly pulled her hair and slapped her. After this, the accused attacked him on his head. This made her unconscious. In her written statement, the victim said that in a semi-conscious state she realized that she was being raped. When the girl regained consciousness after a long time, she saw that she was in the boys’ hostel.
She left from there and lodged a complaint at Haridevpur police station. The woman alleged that the accused is a second -year management student, who did not allow her to enter the name in the register before entering the hostel.
The girl went to the hostel for counseling
On the other hand, the lawyer of the accused claimed in Alipur court on Saturday that the young man had a conversation with the girl on social media. He claimed that a psychological woman by profession had gone to IIM Joka Lake View Hostel for counseling.
The government lawyer said that the phone of the accused has been confiscated. It is being verified. Samples will also be collected from the scene. He also raised questions about the mental health of the accused in the court. The investigating officer told the court, “The girl has repeatedly said that she was unconscious. We need to investigate whether something was leaked from the phone of the accused.”
Regarding the incident, IIM Joka Director Shabal Chatterjee said that the officials are aware of the incident. This incident is being taken very seriously. The investigating agency is also being given full assistance. Officials said that they are committed to protect the dignity, security and privacy of every person associated with the educational institution. No such incident will be tolerated in future.
