After the new government came to Bangladesh, it was believed that Mohammad Yunus has full support of America. Mohammad Yunus went on a visit to America only after the coup of Sheikh Hasina and met the then President Joe Biden. But Bangladesh has not been relieved by America on the tariff policy being imposed by America recently.
The Trump administration has imposed a 35 percent terror on Bangladesh, after which the Yunus government is questioning that even after getting the time of talks, they have not been able to convince America in a diplomatic manner. Experts say that the Younus administration was inability to formulate an effective trade talks strategy, due to which exporters are facing a huge American tariff of 35 percent.
In fact, the tariff was initially to be implemented from July 1, but after an attempt by the affected countries to talk again, the US President has extended the time limit till August 1. In the midst of this deadline, Bangladesh officials have managed to reduce the country just by 2 percent of the terror.
Three months of conversation failed
Economists and business experts say that despite having three months time from April to July, Bangladesh has managed to cut its tariffs by just 2 percent on American products, compared to competitors like Vietnam and is a symbolic step and is ahead of the 14 countries of the 14 countries affected by Trump’s tariff threat.
Although Bangladesh’s financial advisor and interim officials will hold another important meeting on Wednesday with US authorities, the hope of relief is also less visible.
How much tariff was placed on which country
According to the notice posted by Trump- Laos (40%), Myanmar (40%), Thailand (36%) and Cambodia (36%) have been applied. This country is ahead of Bangladesh.
Other countries include Serbia (35%), Indonesia (32%), South Africa (30%), Bosnia and Herjegovina (30%), Malaysia (25%), Tunisia (25%), Japan (25%), South Korea (25%), and Kazakhstan (25%). After better bargaining of these countries, questions are being raised on the weak value of Yunus officials.
