Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said on Monday that the preamble of the Indian Constitution is like a parent for children and it cannot be changed, no matter how much someone tries. He said that there have been many issues regarding the Preamble of the Constitution. The preamble of the Indian Constitution is like a parent for children. No matter how much you try, you cannot change the role of your parents. This is not possible.
In a conversation with students and faculty members at Kochi -based National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), he said that the preface of the Constitution of any country has not been changed historically. However, the preamble of the Constitution of India was changed during the Emergency. He said, the preamble of our constitution was changed when hundreds and thousands of people were in jail, which was the most dark period of our democracy.
Recently this statement of RSS came
His statement has come in terms of the recent demand made by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to review the words socialist and secular. The RSS says that these words were not in the constitution prepared by Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. They were added during the Emergency.
Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosbale of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh had said in a program organized in Delhi on the completion of 50 years of Emergency, these words were never in the preamble of the constitution made by Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. During the Emergency, when fundamental rights were suspended, Parliament was not working, the judiciary was paralyzed, then these words were added.
Emergency was the biggest shock on democracy
Dattatreya Hosbale had said, Emergency was the biggest shock on democracy. During that time, words like ‘socialism’ and ‘secularism’ were forcibly added to the Preamble of the Constitution. Today we should consider whether this word should remain. Those who imposed emergency and suppressed the constitution and democracy, did not apologize till date. They should apologize in the name of their ancestors.
