Iran is hanging the espionage and people associated with Israel since the Israeli attack on Iran. Not only this, Iran is accused that it is common to punish those who raise their voice against the government there. In June this year, the 59th session of the Human Rights Council (HRC) raised concern over the reports of increasing hanging in Iran. But now in a new report, Saudi seems to be leading in the case of hanging.
According to United Nations data, Iran sentenced 975 people to death in 2024. According to a new report released on Monday, Amnesty International has found a shocking increase in the death sentence in Saudi Arabia, including many foreign nationals, who were convicted in drug related crimes. Between January 2014 and June 2025, Saudi Arabia gave death penalty to 1,816 people. Amnesty International said that one in three was given death penalty for drug related crimes, and 75 percent of them were foreign nationals.
Drug convicts are being punished the most
Saudi Arabia alone sentenced 46 people to death in June 2025, out of which 37 have been punished for drug related crimes. Amnesty said that on an average, more than one drug related death was sentenced to death, out of which 34 were foreign nationals.
Death penalty increased in Iran
According to Norway -based Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO), at least 343 people have been sentenced to death in Iran in the first four months of 2025. In 2024, there has been an increase of 75 percent compared to the same period, when 195 people were killed in these 4 months. In April alone, at least 110 people were given the death penalty, which is the most monthly yoga ever this year.
At the same time, Iran has hanged many people associated with Israel in the end of June. Whose strong figures are yet to come, but both the Gulf countries are at the top in the case of hanging.
