Bird flu (avian influenza) was confirmed on one of its farms in the last few months. After this, China banned the import of chicken meat from Brazil. Along with China, more than 20 countries also stopped purchasing poultry products from Brazil. However, now China is considering lifting this ban soon.
China has taken this decision after a meeting with Luiz Eneasio Lula Da Silva, Brazil. Giving information about this, Brazilian Agriculture Minister Carlos Fawaro said that Chinese premiere Lee Kiang has discussed the issue in a meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inecio Lula Da Silva during the BRICS summit. Fawaro said that China is now reviewing the protocol to resume the import of poultry meat from Brazil.
Many more countries lifted ban
However, by the end of June, most countries have lifted the ban after the World Animal Health Organization (WOAH) gave information about the end of bird flu. Still 9 countries including China, Malaysia and Peru are prohibiting chicken imports from Brazil.
Brazilian poultry exports
According to government data, there has been a decline in Brazilian poultry exports, in June, the consignment of fresh chicken meat declined by 23 percent to 314,000 tonnes. On Thursday, the Ministry of Agriculture announced that seven more countries have lifted the sanctions.
