Three devotees died due to a massive stampede near Gudincha temple in Sardhabali area of Puri (Puri), the religious city of Odisha, while more than 50 people were injured.
The accident happened when hundreds of devotees were gathered to see Lord Jagannath. Puri district officer Siddharth S Swain said that the incident took place at around 4 am when a crowd of devotees suddenly became uncontrollable. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital, where the condition of six people is said to be critical. The team of doctors is constantly monitoring. Three devotees killed have been identified. Basanti Sahu (Bolagad), Premkant Mohanty (Balipatna) and Pravati Das (Balipatna) have taken place.
Administration vigilant, inquiry order
The district administration has ordered an inquiry into the accident and the deployment of security forces has been increased to control the situation. It is being told that this incident happened due to the crowd due to the Rath Yatra festival.
