Sonam Raghuvanshi Case: Two accused overturned from confession, court silence

A new turn has come to light in the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya. The police had earlier claimed that five accused including Sonam Raghuvanshi had confessed their crime. But now two main accused Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi, arrested on the charge of murder, kept silence in front of the magistrate and retracted from their old statement.

The accused did not speak in front of the magistrate

According to the Meghalaya Police, during interrogation, Akash and Anand accepted their role, but on 26 June, he did not make any statement when he appeared in the court (Sonam Raghuvanshi Case). Legally, the statement made before the magistrate is valid in the court. Now the police is preparing a strong case against the accused based on forensic report, GPS data, call records, and other digital evidence.

Sonam Raghuvanshi Case: Conspiracy to murder honeymoon

The sensational murder began on 20 May 2025, when King Raghuvanshi went to Meghalaya for a honeymoon with his wife Sonam (Sonam Raghuvanshi Case). The couple went missing on 23 May and on June 2, the king’s body was found in a mutilated condition in a deep ditch. The investigation revealed that Sonam along with her lover Raj Kushwaha had conspired to kill her husband. It is alleged that he gave a betel nut of Rs 20 lakh for the murder.

The murder included Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi, who killed the king in the presence of Sonam and threw the body into the ditch.

More arrests on charges of eradicating evidence

The Meghalaya Police has so far arrested eight accused. These include Sonam, Raj Kushwaha, three betel nut killers and recently arrested from Indore (Sonam Raghuvanshi Case) Lokendra Singh Tomar, Silom James and Ballu Ahirwar. All three are accused of destroying evidence. Police have also recovered a desi pistol, two magazines and live cartridges in the raid.

Sonam Raghuvanshi Case: Demand for Narco Test and Police Answer

The family of Raja Raghuvanshi demanded a narco test on the main accused Sonam and her lover Raj. But Meghalaya Superintendent of Police Vivek Seym clarified that according to the guideline of the Supreme Court, the narco test is not mandatory, especially when adequate technical and physical evidence is available.

Chargesheet will soon appear in court

Police say that the charge sheet will be prepared and filed in the court soon on the basis of DNA reports, digital location data, and other evidence collected in the case. Also, despite overturning the statement of two accused in the Sonam Raghuvanshi case, the police say that the case is strong and the accused will not survive.
