A case of serious security lapse has come to light at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay in Powai, Mumbai. 22 -year -old Bilal Ahmed Teli, a youth named Bilal Ahmed Teli, has been arrested by the police illegally for entering the campus and staying there for 14 days. During this time, Bilal used to attend the class and attend the lecture. According to the police, Bilal used 21 email IDs and several phone numbers to hide his identity, which made his digital record completely clear. In view of the seriousness of the matter, the investigation has been handed over to the Mumbai Crime Branch.
Police said that Bilal introduced himself as a student inside the campus. He used to attend class during the day and slept on the sofas on the ground floor at night. The IIT administration had complained to the Powai police on 21 June, after which an FIR was registered against Bilal in sections like encroachment, fraud and forgery. Earlier, the police had interrogated and allowed him to leave, but now he has been sent to two weeks of police custody and the case has been handed over to the Mumbai Crime Branch. Police investigation revealed that Bilal used 21 email IDs and several mobile numbers so that no digital evidence was missed. The police found this ‘Clean Digital History’ suspect.
He entered the campus on 27 May on the pretext of participating in a one -day course in IIT Bombay. Subsequently, he was living illegally on the campus from June 2 to 7 and then from June 10. According to the FIR, on June 4, an employee of the IIT Credit Department saw that an unknown youth had entered his office without permission. He ran away when he was asked for an identity card. His search continued. After this, his search was started on the basis of CCTV footage. On 17 June, the same youth was seen again in Lecture Hall LH-101, attending class. On June 21, an IIT employee saw him in the office and informed the security officers when he was in doubt, as he found the employee unfamiliar. This time IIT’s Quick Response Team (QRT) caught him and handed it over to the Powai police.

Trying to avoid digital ways
Police investigation revealed that Bilal had not left any concrete evidence in the digital world. His phone had many calling apps such as signal installed and he used to change email and number again and again. He had also seen CCTV footage of IIT entry and exit vint so that he could understand the security system and stay in the premises without holding it.
Where is it from and how much is Bilal?
Bilal Ahmed hails from Mangaluru in Karnataka. Bilal told the police that he had studied only up to 10th in which he scored 48 percent marks. The situation regarding further studies is not clear. He was working in Surat for a few years and then returned to Mangaluru. Due to deep interest in technology, he planned to come to IIT and entered the campus on May 27 on the pretext of one day course.
What is the doubt to the police?
An official said, “The way he tried to erase digital evidence and continuously hiding identity, we suspect his intentions. He is being interrogated and it is being ascertained whether there was a big motive behind it.” Currently the case is near the Crime Branch and the investigation is on.
