Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma on Friday made a big claim that more than 5,000 social media accounts have suddenly become active in favor of Assam Congress, most of which are operating from Islamic countries. Describing it as a matter of national security, the Chief Minister said that the central government has been informed about this.
The Chief Minister told in a press conference that these social media accounts have originated from 47 different countries, the most accounts from Bangladesh and Pakistan. These accounts have been focused on the activities of Assam Congress and a special Congress leader for the last one month. Sharma alleged that these accounts are trying to influence the state’s political atmosphere in view of next year’s assembly elections.
‘Only one leader and Assam Congress is focused on’
The Chief Minister said, “It is a very shocking thing that these accounts do not respond to posts related to Rahul Gandhi or All India Congress Party. They are just like and comment on the posts of Assam Congress and a special leader.” Although he did not name the leader, but it is believed that he recently was towards Gaurav Gogoi, who was made the chairman of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee. Gaurav Gogoi was assigned this responsibility in the last week of May.
‘Content related to Islamic fanaticism is also sharing account’
The CM further said that through these social media accounts, not only is campaigning in favor of Assam Congress, but content related to Islamic fanaticism is also being shared in them. These include posts related to ‘Pro-Felistine’, ‘Iran Support’ and Bangladesh Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus.
Accused of foreign interference before 2026 elections
The Chief Minister said, “For the first time such a large number of foreign intervention has been seen in Assam politics, that too before the 2026 assembly elections. It is not just a political issue but a matter of national security.” Sharma also informed that he has informed the Government of India about this entire matter and demanded proper investigation and action.

Allegations have been made before
Let me tell you that this is not the first time that Assam CM has made such a sensational claim. Earlier this month, he said that around 2000 Facebook accounts are commenting on Assam elections and at least half of these accounts are being conducted from Pakistan and Bangladesh. The Assam Police (Special Branch) has been tasked to investigate these accounts. Assam Chief Minister Himanta said that these accounts are allegedly targeting Assam politics and said that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) also “wants to win someone”. He said that these Facebook profiles are allegedly involved in the coordinated online activity aimed at affecting the political atmosphere of Assam aimed at affecting the political atmosphere before the 2026 assembly elections.
