Under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Jal Ganga Promotion Campaign has proved to be a historical initiative in gathering public participation to resolve water conservation in Madhya Pradesh. The campaign is being operated from 30 March to 30 June 2025, which aims to ensure conservation and revival of rivers, water sources and wetlands. According to the assessment of the latest state level performance dashboard issued by the Madhya Pradesh State Employment Guarantee Council, Khandwa ranks first in Madhya Pradesh. Earlier, the Central Agency has declared Khandwa as the top district of the country for water conservation works. Madhya Pradesh has got fourth position in this list.
The target of construction of farm-ponds was set at 77,940, but 79,815 farm-ponds are being constructed in the state, which is more than 100 percent. The construction of 1,078 farm-ponds is being started daily during the campaign period. Out of the target of 1,03,900 for Dugwell recharge structures, 1,00,321 structures are constructed, which is 96.56% of the target. An average of 1,355 dugwell construction is being started daily in the state. The Amrit Sarovar target is being built 1,254 as compared to 992. The target of water -registration on the My Bharat portal was set 1,62,400, while 2,30,749 volunteers have been registered, which is quite high.
The state government has implemented a 100-digit ranking system based on five major areas-old NRM work, farm-pond, dagwell, amrit lake and Mybharat registration. On this basis, Khandwa district topped the district with 71.09 points. Khandwa’s performance was best at the beginning of farm-pond construction, Dugwell Recharge and Amrit Sarovar. Raisen (60.85 points), Balaghat (59.52 points) and Burhanpur (55.85 marks) finished second, third and fourth respectively. Most of the districts of the state have scored full marks in Amrit Sarovar and My Bharat categories.
