The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is interacting with the UAE and Afghanistan to organize a tri -series in August in the event of the Asia Cup being canceled or postponed. The Asia Cup is to be played in September and India has the right to host it. According to the hybrid model accepted before the Champions Trophy earlier this year, Pakistan will not visit India for this tournament.
Preparation of tri -series
PCB has started talking with the Afghanistan Board amidst ambiguity about the Asia Cup organizing. Afghanistan has to visit Pakistan in August for a limited overs series. A PCB source said, ‘As the Asia Cup is no longer likely to be in India due to the deteriorating relations between Pakistan and India, the PCB is working on another triangular chain proposal. If the Asia Cup is held in the UAE, Pakistan will play a tri -series in Dubai with Afghanistan and UAE in August. It will replace Afghanistan’s visit to Pakistan.
PCB prepared plan B
He said that the PCB is already interacting with both the cricket boards to organize the tri -series. The source revealed, “If the Asia Cup is canceled or postponed, PCB wants Afghanistan and UAE teams to play a tri -series in Pakistan in August.”
BCCI has not yet expressed the desire to organize Asia Cup
PCB President Mohsin Naqvi is the current president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The ACC will hold a meeting soon to decide on the Asia Cup. He said, ‘The Indian Cricket Board has not yet confirmed its desire to host the Asia Cup at home ground. In such a situation, it has to be seen how long the ACC decides on the future of this Asia Cup proposed in T20 format.
