Ahmedabad
No one could survive alive except a passenger in the Air India aircraft accident in Ahmedabad. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani also died in the accident. Rupani was going to London to meet his wife and daughter. He was also riding in the same flight AI 171 of Air India, which fell victim to the accident on Thursday. There have been many such aircraft accidents in the past in India, in which well-known leaders have lost their lives. It includes veteran Congress leader Madhavraj Scindia, YSR, Sanjay Gandhi and other names.
Sanjay Gandhi
Sanjay Gandhi, son of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, was also killed in an aircraft accident in 1980. On June 23, 1980, in the morning, Sanjay Gandhi lost control of his aircraft while doing air stunts and later the aircraft fell victim to an accident in New Delhi’s Diplomatic Enclave. Captain Subhash Saxena also died in this.
Madhavrao Scindia
Another veteran Congress leader and former Civil Aviation Minister Madhavraj Scindia died in a plane crash during a rally in Kanpur on 30 September 2001. The aircraft was a private plane with ten seats, which fell victim to bad weather in Mainpuri, UP.
GMC Balayogi
Lok Sabha Speaker and Telugu Desam Party leader GMC Balayogi died on March 3, 2002 in a helicopter accident. A private helicopter coming from Bhimavaram in Western Godavari district crashed into a pond near Kaikur in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. Balayogi also lost his life in this accident.
Cyprian Sangma
Meghalaya Rural Development Minister Cypian Sangma along with other nine people was going from Pawan Hans Helicopter to Shillong from Guwahati. Sangma lost his life in the helicopter accident on 22 September 2004. His helicopter fell victim to an accident near Barapani Lake just 20 km from the state capital.
Om Prakash Jindal
Om Prakash Jindal, a veteran leader and minister of Haryana, died in a helicopter crash in 2005. He was accompanied by Minister Surender Singh and was going from Delhi to Chandigarh. Meanwhile, the helicopter crashed in Saharanpur in UP, in which both lost their lives.
Dorji Khandu
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorji Khandu and four others died on April 30, 2011, when a helicopter carrying him from Tawang to Itanagar crashed in the western Command district of the state.
YSR
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy lost his life in a helicopter accident in 2009. In the incident that took place on September 2, 2009, YSR was flying on his Bell 430 helicopter. Meanwhile, the helicopter crashed in the forests of Nallamla.
