North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said in a message sent to Russian President Vladimir Putin that his country will always stand with Moscow. North Korea’s government media gave this information on Thursday. According to KCNA report, in a message sent to Putin on the occasion of ‘Russian Day’ (day to celebrate Russia’s independence), Kim called the Russian President his ‘favorite friend’. He praised North Korea and Russia’s bilateral relations and described it as ‘real relations between the two colleagues’.
Kim was quoted as saying, “The DPRK government and my strong will to pursue DPRK-Russia relations.” DPRK means North Korea’s official name ‘Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’. KCNA said on Wednesday (June 11) that Kim Jong Un sent a congratulations to Putin on Russia Day. Earlier this year, Pyongyang first confirmed that he had sent his army to fight for Russia in the Ukraine war on the orders of leader Kim Jong Un after months of silence.
North Korean leaders have been continuously supporting Russia. Earlier, Kim Jong Un promised Putin unconditionally. According to KCNA reports, “During a meeting in Pyongyang with Putin’s leading security colleague Sergei Shigu, Kim said that North Korea Russia and all will be unconditionally supported by Russia and all important international political affairs.” The two countries agreed to increase their relations in powerful and comprehensive relations of strategic partnership.
Bloomberg News, citing a report from 11 countries including the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, Canada and Japan, stated that in 2024, North Korea had sent at least 100 ballistic missiles to Russia. Russia used these missiles to destroy civil infrastructure in Ukraine and attack populated areas such as Kiev and Japorizia. The report also reported that Pyongyang had deployed more than 11,000 soldiers in eastern Russia in late 2024, who were taken to remote-western Kursk Oblasts, where they attended war campaigns against Ukraine with the Russian Army.
