World Cup winner leg spinner Piyush Chawla announced retirement from all formats

India’s two -time World Cup winner leg -spinner Piyush Chawla on Friday announced his retirement from all formats of professional cricket. Chawla, 36, gave information about this by posting Instagram. He wrote, “The time has come to say goodbye to this beautiful game after spending more than two decades on the field.”

The 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup win in Chawla were part of the Indian team. Chawla took more than 1000 wickets in all formats in professional cricket. Till his last performance in 2012, he played 3 Tests, 25 ODIs and 7 T20 matches for India in five years in which he took 43 wickets.

Chawla said, ‘From representing India at the highest level to becoming a part of the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup winning team, this incredible journey has not been less than a boon every moment. These memories will always be in my heart. The IPL franchise is heartfelt thanks to Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians who trusted me. The Indian Premier League has been a special chapter of my career and I have cherished every moment playing in it. I am my coaches Mr. K.K. Gautam and late Shri Pankaj Saraswat are thankful to the heart, who prepared me as a cricketer.

He further said, ‘Today is a very emotional day for me because I officially announce my retirement from all formats of international and domestic cricket. Even if I go away from the crease, but cricket will always be within me. Now I am eager to start a new journey by taking the spirit and lesson of this beautiful game with me.
