Police have taken a big action two days after the stampede that took place during the Celebration of IPL victory in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Police have arrested Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) marketing head Nikhil Sosh and event management company Sunil Matthew and Kiran Kumar of DNA Entertainment, and another from Campegowda Airport. All of them were detained under a joint operation of the Crime Branch and the Bengaluru Police. All are being questioned.
On Thursday, the police registered a case against RCB, DNA Entertainment, and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). After this, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed the police that all these representatives should be arrested quickly. Police say some KSCA officials are absconding since then and are being discovered.
KSCA takes the attitude of Supreme Court
The KSCA, which is responsible for the stadium and security, tried to save his accountability after the stampede. KSCA president Raghu Ram Bhat and some other officials approached the Karnataka High Court on Friday to cancel the FIR lodged against him in the stampede case at Chinnaswamy Stadium.
New police commissioner took charge, immediate action
The arrest took place when Senior IPS officer Sement Kumar Singh took over as Bengaluru Police Commissioner. He has replaced B Dayanand, which has been suspended due to negligence in the stampede. On Thursday, the state government also suspended Additional Commissioner Vikas Kumar Vikas, DCP Shekhar HT, ACP C Balakrishna, and Kabban Park Police Station Incharge Girish AK.
Who is Seamant Kumar Singh?
Stampant Kumar Singh is a 1996 batch IPS officer and is a resident of Bihar. He served as SP in South Kannada from 2000 to 2004. Subsequently, in April 2010, he became the first Police Commissioner of Mangalore and held the post till August 2012. In the year 2019, he has also served as the Additional Commissioner of Bangalore East.
What happened on Wednesday?
To celebrate RCB’s IPL victory on Wednesday, the team said that the open bus parade would be taken out which will go from Vidhan Saudha to Chinnaswamy Stadium. After this, a program was also fixed in the stadium for which free passes were to be given online. But at 11:56 am, the Bengaluru Traffic Police announced the cancellation of the parade. But by then it was too late, thousands of people had already reached.
The RCB team reached HAL Airport at around 1:30 pm, then went to the hotel and the legislation beauty from there. Meanwhile, more than 50 thousand people gathered near the stadium within a radius of one kilometer. Many people were seen climbing trees, buildings and even the roof of the High Court.
How did stampede?
Around 4 o’clock in the evening, the gate number 3 of the stadium was partially opened, when the pass holders and the people without nearby started running towards the gate and a stampede occurred. 11 persons died and more than 56 people were injured in the accident.
