Dhaka
Pictures of Bang Bandhu Mujibur Rahman have become history on Bangladesh’s currency notes. New notes have been issued by Bangladesh Bank on Sunday. There is no Mujibur Rahman in these notes, who had been printing in the currency since the formation of the country in 1971. He was also the father of former PM Sheikh Hasina. Sheikh Hasina had to withdraw from power after the coup in Bangladesh last year and then left the country. Mohammad Yunus is handling the leadership as the head of the interim government after Sheikh Hasina has moved from the post. There has been a lot of violence in Bangladesh during his government -led government.
The memorial associated with Sheikh Mujibar Rahman at Dhanmandi was set on fire. Apart from this, Sheikh Hasina’s house was also burnt. Now the new currency notes which have been issued will not have a picture of any leader. Instead, the National Shaheed Memorial will be given place. Not only this, some historical places of Bangladesh will also be shown in these notes. These places also include Hindu and Buddhist temples. Bangladesh Bank spokesman Arif Hussain Khan said that the design of the new series notes is quite different from before. Now no human will be shown in these notes. In its place, the natural beauty and tradition of Bangladesh is shown in it.
Till now Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was seen in Bangladesh’s currency. He led the Bangladesh freedom struggle of 1971 and was murdered during the coup in 1975. The design of new Bangladesh notes has been designed by painter Zainul Abedin. It also shows the famine of Bengal.
This is not the first time in Bangladesh when the design of currency notes has changed and this has been done for political reasons. Whatever notes were changed for the first time in 1972. Then the map of Bangladesh used to printed on the notes and was replaced by pictures of Mujibar Rahman. This often happened during the Awami League government. Then whenever Khaleda Zia’s BNP got power in Bangladesh, he gave a place on historical monuments on notes.
