On May 31, border districts will have sirens and blackouts for a few hours, people warning to alert

In the Indian states bordering the Pakistan border, the sounds of siren will echo once again and will be dark for some time. In fact, the central government has taken a new initiative to test preparations to deal with possible emergency situation in the border districts. Under this scheme, a mock drill will be organized every month, in which local citizens will be given practical training of how to be safe in a situation like war.

First big mock drill on 31 May, participation of many agencies
According to sources, this practice will be done simultaneously on 31 May this month in the border districts of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujarat and Union Territory Chandigarh. Blackout will be done during this mock drill named ‘Operation Shield’ and warning sirens will be played so that people learn to stay alert. Local police, civil defense, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Health Department and other emergency services will participate in this exercise. The objective is – to investigate the coordination between citizens and security agencies in case of any possible attack or crisis.

Will the mock drill be taught?
During the drill, people will be told that if an aerial attack, missile strike or drone attack, how to reach a safe place, how to behave in blackout and how to follow government instructions.

Decision came under the background of previous events
It is worth noting that after the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, tension has increased on the Indo-Pak border. In this context, on 7 May, a practice was done across the country. After that, now the government has decided to regularly rehearse such in the border areas.

Why are these mock drills important?
Citizens settled in areas adjacent to the border are often targeted first. In such a situation, it is important to ensure that they are not only mentally prepared, but also practically what they should do in the hour of crisis.
