The Government of India has stopped the Indus Water Agreement after the Pahalgam terror attack. It is due to this decision that there is a situation of concern in the neighboring country, but the government has now become active to increase the troubles of Pakistan. By deciding to stop the Indus Water Agreement, the Government of India has cleared the way for making dams and hydroelectric projects. Meanwhile, the government has held a meeting with the concerned ministries and departments and has asked them to expedite the hydel projects planned in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Apart from this, there will be an emphasis on establishing many such projects, which were being brainstorming, but till now no work was done.

Apart from this, the government has also sought a report that which are such projects that can be completed rapidly. Currently, the government has shortlisted about 10 new projects and they are being studied in depth. 5 of these have already been approved. Not only this, there is a preparation to release the tender soon for about two projects. The Uri-1 project on the Jhelum River is being expanded. With this, water coming from Kishanganga river can be used more and more. For this, the tender can be issued next week. Environmental clearance for this project was received two months ago and now its work is being expedited.

There are some other such projects, which are ready to work fast. These projects are- New Ganderbal Project on Sindh Nala, Kirthai-2 on the Chenab River, Kirathai-2, Ramban and Udhampur districts are also preparing for two projects. A total of 3100 mega watt power can be prepared, including all these. Although all these have to take many approval at the state and center level, but the attitude of the government does not seem to have any hurdle. Not only this, the government has also told many ministries and departments of Jammu and Kashmir in this regard that any approval should be given rapidly. There should be no obstruction. There are some projects where it is difficult to work because they are in inaccessible areas. Apart from this, there are also concerns of safety. The government has also held a meeting on this and has said to remove all the problems.
