BCB’s Cricket Operations President Najmul Abedin said that he has chosen Litton keeping in mind the long -term plan. He said, ‘Experience in choosing Litton has been an important factor. We do not have more experienced players in the current setup. Litton’s form was discussed, but we believe they have capacity. If he can organize his game, he will be a property for the team. ‘ All -rounder Mehndi Hasan will be the team vice -captains for the next two T20 series.
Najmul said that the board is also working on finding a long -term captain for Tests and ODI captaincy. He said, ‘We will soon announce ODI and Test captains. Leadership is not only about the match, this is a full -time responsibility. ‘ Chief selector Ghazi Ashraf Hussain said that Litton needs to move forward as Bangladesh is going through a change. He said that many senior cricketers are no longer part of the national set-up.
He said, ‘We always talk to the captain and coach before finalizing the team. But this time the decision came late and we did not have much time. Nevertheless, the coaching panels and selectors worked together. Before the World Cup, we have to play bilateral series against Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India besides the Asia Cup. There will be a lot of opportunities to use. Litton will play an important role in this. Ghazi said that Litton should bat at number three in the T20 lineup.
