From Narendra Modi’s first Lok Sabha election to 2019 in 2014, from the second election of his tenure, the BJP raised a strong social equation by adding OBCs (OBC), the backward castes (EBC) and the Scheduled Castes (SC). However, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, this vote bank of BJP was shattered and a large part of these classes leaned towards the Congress and India block, which shattered the 400 -cross -BJP dream. BJP and NDA, especially in big states like UP, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Haryana, got a big shock. In such a situation, the bet of caste census is an attempt to heal these neglected feelings of these castes.
Attempt to give a direct message to OBC
The BJP has been using Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fact to be the OBC’s backward bets till now. When a caste survey was conducted in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his JDU were not in NDA. However, even then the BJP had officially supported that caste survey. Now the Modi government is trying to redeem the backward background of Prime Minister and Bihar CM Nitish by further retiring the bets of caste census across the country. Anyway, the Modi government has always mentioned its decision to give constitutional status to the National Backward Classes Commission. Now with this decision, his work can be easier that in reality PM Modi himself is from backward society, he is also working as the Messiah of OBC society.
Trying to overshadow the politics of states
The BJP had come to know that if the Union was sluggish about the caste census, then the opposition-ruled state governments can try to turn social equations in their favor by implementing it in their own way. Telangana has already become active in this direction. In Karnataka, the Congress government is also trying to place its bets and the demand for ‘Sarna Code’ in Jharkhand is also gaining momentum. In such a situation, by announcing the Center to get it done at the national level, the BJP government has made an edge on the politics of the opposition.

Ever since the Modi government came in 2014, its many welfare schemes, social fabrics have also been created to strengthen. The EWS Kota and Vishwakarma Yojana is the best example of this. Similarly, many schemes are going on for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, through which the work of upliftment of these classes is also being done, while the government has reached among these classes through it. But, through caste census, the party is trying to directly help the Indian society divided into castes, which had now become a big challenge for it. Because, there are many such schemes like Ujjwala Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana, through which the BJP government has brought itself close to special sections of the society, but now it also started increasing problems on the basis of castes, for which it seemed necessary to run a new card.
Caste syrup on the politics of Hindutva
BJP’s politics has been revolving around Hindutva for a long time. But the 2024 Lok Sabha election results made it clear that only religious polarization is no longer enough for the party. Therefore, now the party is trying to impose social justice and electoral syrup of backward on Hindutva. Its purpose is to create a broad social equation in which support can be obtained at both religious and caste levels.
