A total of 157 jerks were felt in the country after the devastating earthquake on 28 March in Myanmar. The Department of Meteorological and Hydrology gave this information on Monday. The department said that the intensity of earthquake tremors was between 2.8 and 7.5. News agency Xinhua quoted the government daily Myanmar Elin as saying that till April 25, the death toll in the earthquake was 3,763, 5,107 people were injured and 110 people were missing.
According to the country’s National Disaster Management Committee (NDMC), more than 2,00,000 people have been displaced from their homes after a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Central Myanmar on March 28.
On Friday, at the third meeting of the year of the committee held in Pyi Tav, NDMC Chairman Vice Senior General So Win said the earthquake has caused heavy damage to 10 regions and states including Pyi Taw, Sagang, Mandle, Bago, Magway and Shaan.
General So Win said that more than 63,000 houses, 6,700 schools, 5,400 monasteries, 5,300 pagodas and hundreds of other religious buildings, hospitals, bridges, roads and dams were destroyed or damaged due to the earthquake.
International medical teams, including 337 foreign personnel, have set up temporary hospitals in the most affected areas and are treating people in collaboration with local health workers.
He said that after demanding international help from the Myanmar government, 2,095 rescuers from 26 countries and regions have reached Myanmar. These rescuers have brought more than 3,800 tonnes of relief material through 147 aircraft, seven ships and 23 vehicles.
India was the first aided country in earthquake affected areas in Myanmar. Under ‘Operation Brahma’, India sent more than 750 MT relief material, including essential medicines, food grains, prepared food, tents, blankets, gennsets, surgery and medical shelters, water hygiene and health services, health services, drinking water, clothes, and prefabricated offices.
