The impact of rehabilitation policy has started showing in Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh. A Naxalite couple active in the district surrendered to the police on Thursday. A reward of Rs 7 lakh was declared on both. With this surrender, the number of Naxalites surrendering in Kabirdham district has increased to 11.
Those who surrender have been identified as Ramesh alias Atam Guddu and Savita alias Lachhi Poyam. After the surrender, both were given an incentive amount of Rs 25-25 thousand from the government. The couple expressed their confidence in the new rehabilitation policy and said to leave the path of violence.
Active in MMC zone for 8 years
Ramesh was an active member of platoon number 01 of Naxalite organization, while Savita Tanda was working as a member of the Area Committee. Both were active in the MMC zone for the last eight years.
Ramesh has also been injured in an encounter in 2019. It is being told that both of them decided to return to the mainstream after being impressed by the ongoing internal conflict inside the organization, atrocities on the tribal community and the rehabilitation policy of the police.
Police officials say that all possible help will be provided to the surrendered Naxalites so that they can return successfully to normal life and re -connect to the mainstream of society.
