India exported record vehicles in FY 2024-25

Mumbai

India’s automobile sector has again gained momentum in global markets. In FY 2024-25, the country’s total vehicle exports reached beyond 53 lakh units, making a strong jump of 19%. According to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), a total of 53.63 lakh (53,63,089) vehicles were exported in the last financial year, which is a significant increase compared to the units of 45 lakhs (45,00,494) of 2023-24.

Bounce in demand for ‘Made in India’ vehicles globally

SIAM said that their demand in international markets has increased rapidly due to the quality and performance of global models made in India. Not only this, many Indian companies have now started vehicle exports in developed countries.

Passenger Vehicles:

In 2024-25, the export of passenger vehicles increased to 7,70,364 units with an increase of 15%, which was 6,72,105 units in 2023-24. The share of utility vehicles (Utility Vehicles) also increased considerably and 3,62,160 units were exported, which is 54% higher than the previous year’s 2,34,720 units.

Two-wheelers:

Two -wheeler exports rose by 21%. 41,98,403 units were exported, compared to 34,58,416 units last year. Economic stability in Africa and strong demand in Latin America supported this growth. The discovery of new models and new markets also promoted exports.

Three-WHEELERS:

There was a slight but stable increase in this category. 3.1 lakh units were exported in 2024-25, which is 2% higher than 2023-24.

Commercial Vehicles:

Export of commercial vehicles saw a strength of 23%. In the last financial year, 80,986 units were sent abroad, compared to 65,818 units last year.

The global hold of ‘Made in India’ brand strong

SIAM president Shailesh Chandra said, “The export front has seen a good revival in all areas, especially passengers and two -wheelers. It shows India’s competitive ability and increasing acceptance in global markets.”

He also said that Indian vehicles are expected to remain in major markets like Africa and neighboring countries.
