If the color coded fuel sticker is not installed, then it will be heavy

The transport department of the Delhi government has announced an important decision, under which vehicles with color coded fuel stickers will now be fined. This strictness is being implemented under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, which aims to make pollution control and road safety measures more effective in Delhi.

What is color coded fuel sticker?

The color coded fuel sticker is a type of third registration sign, which is mandatory to stick on the windshield of the vehicle. This sticker reflects the fuel type of the vehicle and through its color it helps the authorities to identify it easily that the vehicle is running from diesel, petrol, CNG or electric.

Which color sticker for which vehicle

  • Blue Sticker: For petrol and CNG vehicles
  • Orange sticker: For diesel vehicles
  • Green Sticker: For electric vehicles

Start in 2012, compulsory from 2019

High security registration plates (HSRP) started in Delhi in 2012, including color coded stickers. However, it was made completely mandatory from 2019. All private and commercial vehicles are required to follow this rule. Despite this, many vehicle owners are still being found driving without a sticker.

Legal provision and fine

In the latest instructions issued by the Transport Department, it has been clearly stated that action will be taken against those who do not install vehicle color coded fuel stickers under Section 192 (1) of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. For the first time, a fine of Rs 500 can be imposed on violation and Rs 1,000 for repeated violations.

Why is this sticker important?

Air pollution is a major problem in Delhi, and this sticker is an effective remedy to identify pollution vehicles. In addition, it helps the traffic police and transport officials to identify the vehicle’s fuel type rapidly during the investigation, which leads to transparency and speed in vehicle checking.

What should vehicle owners do?

If your vehicle is registered before 2019 and you have not yet installed HSRP and color coded sticker, contact your nearest authorized dealer or transport office as soon as possible. Nowadays many state governments are also providing online booking and home delivery facilities.
