Neeraj Chopra will now be held in Bengaluru instead of Panchkula

The first phase of Neeraj Chopra Classic Javelin Throw event will be held on May 24 in Bengaluru instead of Panchkula due to lack of adequate light. Many star athletes will participate in the javelin throw competition to be held at Kantirawa Stadium. Anderson Peters and Thomas Roaler have confirmed participation.

Grenada’s Peters is a two -time world champion and Rohaller is the 2016 Olympic gold medalist. Chopra said that he has also invited Pakistani Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem, who has not yet confirmed the participation.

Chopra told reporters in the ‘Virtual Media’ conversation, ‘I have sent an invitation to Arshad and he has said that he will contact me after discussing with his coach. He has not yet confirmed the participation.

This competition has been given Category-A status by World Athletics. Chopra said, ‘I wanted this competition to be held in Panchkula, but there are some issues related to the arrangement of lights in the stadium. World Athletics 600 ‘Lux’ (measurement of light intensity) wanted, but there was not so much light available in Panchkula and it would take time to prepare it.

The 27 -year -old player said, ‘Therefore we have decided to move the competition to the Kantirawa Stadium in Bangalore. We have a team there and it will be very easy to organize it there.

The event will be organized jointly by Chopra and JSW Sports in collaboration with the Indian Athletics Federation (AFI) and World Athletics, in which top global and Indian spear throw players will participate.

Peters won a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics and in addition to Roaler, Julius Yigo of Kenya (2016 is the silver medalist at the Rio Olympics and the gold medalist of the 2015 World Championships) and the Kartis Thompson of America (top in the current session from Kartis Thompson (87.76 meters top in the current session) have also been confirmed.

Chopra said without naming, “A Brazilian athlete, who qualified for the final at the Paris Olympics, has also confirmed the participation.” However, it can be Luis da Silva who finished 11th in Paris with a best throw of 80.67 meters.
