BMC claims to improve its ranking in clean survey

The Clean Survekshan 2024 in the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) claims to improve its ranking, while the ground reality is something else. In the last financial year, Bhopal Municipal Corporation has spent only 3% of its proposed budget of its Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM). According to the Finance Department, BMC spent only Rs 3.21 crore out of Rs 107 crore given to SBM, which is about 3% of the total amount. It is the lowest fund use department among all other major departments under the corporation’s budget of Rs 3,351 crore for the financial year 2024-25 to SBM.

The highest expenditure in these departments

In addition, departments such as Health, Central Workshop and Water Work have recorded a lot of expenses. The Health Department used about 60% of its budget of Rs 174 crore, ie spent Rs 104.40 crore. The Central Workshop Department spent Rs 127 crore out of the allocation of Rs 271 crore, while the Water Work Department used more than Rs 127 crore out of its allocation of Rs 304 crore. Interestingly, no department managed to use its entire proposed budget and only the Health Department has crossed the 50% use mark.

95% funds not used in Amrit Yojana

Other poor performing departments of the Municipal Corporation include Amrit Yojana, 95% of the funds of which were not used and the parking department, which used only Rs 5.46 lakh out of Rs 78 lakh, has used only 7% of the amount.

Last budget did not spend

Leader of Opposition in Bhopal Municipal Corporation Shabista Zaki has said that no work is being done in Bhopal Municipal Corporation. The previous budget of many departments has not been spent yet. Zaki has said that central funding has been delayed for important basic works due to poor execution. While corporation president Kishan Suryavanshi claimed that the amount received has been fully used. He has said that strict action will be taken against the departments which will not be able to use the amount properly.
