Soon the experience of highway journey in the country is going to change completely, new toll system starting from May 1

New Delhi
Soon the experience of highway journey in the country is going to change completely. The central government is now going to bring a satellite-based toll system to relieve long queues, fastag’s flaws and time wastage on toll plazas. Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday indicated that the government will introduce a new toll policy within the coming 15 days, which can bring revolutionary changes in India’s toll collection system.

Start of GPS based toll system
Gadkari said that after the implementation of this new policy, all the complaints of the people about the toll will be removed. He did not share much information about the policy at the moment, but the indications are clear – the government is now going to take a big step towards GPS based toll recovery.

Technology ahead of fastag
The fastag system was launched in India in 2016, which is based on RFID technology. However, in the past years, many problems have been revealed in its operation – such as excessive traffic, tag scanning technical disturbances, and cases of tag misuse. Due to these problems, the government is now moving towards smart and accurate toll collection systems.

How will GPS Toll System work?
In this new system, an on-board unit (OBU) device will be installed in every vehicle, which will track the real time location of the vehicle and the distance on the highway through the GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) technique.

As soon as the vehicle runs on the highway,
The system will measure the distance of travel to that vehicle,
Based on the same, the toll amount will be fixed,
And that amount will be automatically deducted from the driver’s bank account or wallet.

Big relief: Don’t stop, just walk!
Drivers will not need to stop at a toll plaza with GPS Toll’s implementation. This will not only save time, but will also reduce fuel expenses and will also get relief from problems like traffic jam.

What will be the effect on common people?
With the implementation of this new policy, ordinary citizens will get toll transparency, arbitrary recovery will be curbed, and toll tax will only be paid as far away as the vehicle is run on the highway. That is, there will be toll recovery on the “pay as you drive” model.
