The state government filed an affidavit in the Calcutta High Court on the violence that erupted in Murshidabad, West Bengal last week against the Waqf Amendment Act, stating that a crowd of around 10,000 had gathered on the day of the violence. Not only this, the pistol also snatched the police pistol posted on the spot. The report said that the Bengal government has said in its report that about 10 people out of the frenzied crowd had deadly weapons from which the police had to save their officers. The report said that three people died in the violence of miscreants.
The report said that the first crowd of around 8000-10000 people gathered on PWD Ground Out. After this, a part of the crowd separated and about 5000 people moved towards Umarpur and blocked NH. After this, the crowd became uncontrollable and started using dirty language. After this, he started throwing brick and stones at police personnel.
A three -member committee should visit the affected areas
Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court reserved its order to continue the deployment of central forces in West Bengal’s violence affected Murshidabad district. A division bench of Justice Saumen Sen and Justice Raja Basu Chaudhary suggested that a three-member committee with a member of the National Human Rights Commission, West Bengal State Human Rights Commission and a member of the State Legal Services Authority should visit the affected areas of the district to monitor the rehabilitation and peace of people displaced due to violence.
Hearing on the petition of Shubhendu Adhikari
The High Court was hearing the petition of the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, Shubhendu Adhikari, in which he claimed that there were bombings during communal riots in the Muslim -dominated district. Another petitioner requested the state government to take steps to return to their homes due to violence. The lawyer appearing for the Center requested before the court that the deployment of CAPF (Central Armed Police Force) in Murshidabad should be extended for some time in view of the sensitivity of the ground status of the district.
About 17 companies of central forces deployed
About 17 companies of central forces are currently deployed in Murshidabad’s disturbed Sati, Shamserganj-Dhulian areas. The High Court on Saturday ordered the deployment of CAPF in the district for restoration of peace. Keeping its argument before the court, the West Bengal government submitted a report and claimed that the law and order situation in Murshidabad is currently under control. The state government also said that some affected families have already returned to their homes. The petitioner claimed that in the last few days, many people have taken refuge in a relief camp in a school in Malda district after escaping the violence against the Waqf (Amendment) Act in Murshidabad.
Demand to implement President’s rule
On the other hand, Shubhendu Adhikari has said that after the violence and migration of people in districts like Murshidabad, Malda and Twenty -four Parganas of the state, the state’s situation is now going out of the control of the Mamata Banerjee government, so the state should be imposed immediate President’s rule. The senior BJP leader officer demanded President’s rule, saying, “Mamta government has completely failed to maintain law and order.” He has also demanded to hold the assembly elections to be held in 2026 under President’s rule. The officer alleges that the jihadi elements are roaming openly and the police is acting like the cadre of the ruling party.
