Agencies have been laid up to bring India to India, who was arrested in Belgium and brought Mehul Choksi, a fugitive businessman of India and a bank fraud of 13 thousand crores. He has been arrested in Belgium only on the insistence of India’s agencies. At the same time, according to reports, ED and CBI are going to send three of their officers to Belgium so that Mehul Choksi can be found to be found to bring India to India. Expectations of extradition of Mehul Choksi in Belgium are more intensive because there is an extradition treaty between the two countries.

What is 125 years old agreement with Belgium
India’s agencies resorted to the 125 -year -old extradition treaty and gave all the information to Belgium. However, it was also known to Mehul Choksi. Then he started preparing to flee Switzerland. A treaty was signed between Belgium and Britain on 29 October 1901. At that time, Britain also ruled in India. The treaty was later amended at least three times.

The treaty was amended in 1907, 1911 and 1958. Even after India got independence, the two countries decided to continue the treaty. Under this treaty, if any of the two countries commit serious crime, then it can be extradited in each other’s country. These crimes include crime like murder, fraud, rape, extortion and drugs smugting. In any of the two countries, the person committing crime will be considered capable of punishment in both countries.

If there is strong evidence against someone, then his extradition can be urged. However, no country will extradite any citizen of its own country. If it is revealed that the emphasis is being laid for someone’s extradition for politics, then this request can also be sidelined. At the same time, after extradition, he cannot be prosecuted for any new crime. Apart from this, it cannot be sent to the third country without the permission of the first country.
