New Delhi
Going to America and living there is now difficult. President Donald Trump has made a major change in immigration. Now all the migrants living in America will always have to keep an identity card in their pockets. These rules for whom they have been made mandatory are are legally living, working and students. Let us understand what kind of challenges have increased for migrants in America now. Let’s understand it.
The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has taken this decision. This decision came after a court order, which was asked to re -implement a rule of Trump’s time. This rule says that those who are illegally living in America will have to register their names with the government. Now this rule is going to be implemented afresh.
Applicable to all non -Americans above 18 years of age
According to this new rule, every non -citizen of 18 years or older will have to keep his identity card with all the time. DHS has clearly stated that this rule will be strictly implemented and no concession will be given on violation of it. This rule has come into effect from 11 April. DHS has also said that they will pay more attention to this rule and implement it strictly.
Alien law is behind this rule
The change took place on January 20 after an executive order ‘Protecting the American Peepal Against Invenge’. In this order, DHS has been directed to implement the Alien Registration Act, which was being ignored for a long time.
What to do if you do not have the necessary documents
The new rules are mainly applied to those who do not have the documents required to live in the US. All such non-citizens who are 14 years or older and have been living in America for more than 30 days, they will have to fill the form G-325R and register their names with the government. The children of immigrants will also have to register again within 30 days of turning 14 and give their fingerprints.
On changing the address, you have to give information about new address
Apart from this, those who are coming to America after April 11 will have to register within 30 days of arrival. If someone changes his address, he will have to inform DHS about new address within 10 days. Not following this rule may impose a fine of up to $ 5,000.
These people will not have this strict rule of Trump
However, this rule does not apply to those who already have a valid visa. Such as students living on student visas or work visas, or those who have a green card, employment documentation or I-94 admission record. It is believed that these people have already completed the process of registration. For example, Indian citizens who are living in the US with valid visas or green cards do not need to register under the new rule. However, they have to keep their identity cards with all the time and show them when they are asked for.
7 lakh Indians living illegally living in America
According to DHS data, by 2022 around 2.2 million Indians were illegally living in the US. However, other organizations such as the Pew Research Center estimates that the number can be up to 7 lakhs, while the Migration Policy Institute estimates that the figure is around 3.75 lakhs.
One notch in America and increased monitoring level
This new rule is going to be very important for the immigrant community living in the US. Especially for those who do not have legally allowed. This will add another level of papers and monitoring to them, which is already a complex migrant system. This policy may lead to debate on privacy, civil rights and widespread impact on migrant communities across the country.
