Birth rate in Russia reached the lowest level after 1800, continuing to decline despite government’s efforts

Moscow
Russia has recorded a major decline in birth rate. The decline in Russia’s population is so high that the records of the last nearly 200 years have broken. The population in Russia is decreasing due to low children and this is becoming a serious challenge before the government. Russia’s Vladimir Putin government got involved in war with Ukraine, despite many attempts to increase the birth rate in recent years, there is no significant benefit in this direction. The population of Russia is growing rapidly, due to which those working in the country are decreasing.

According to the Moscow Times report, a government agency named Rostat has released new population figures. Statistics show that only 1,95,400 children were born in January and February Russia this year. This figure is three percent lower than these months of the previous year. There was further decline in the month of February. The birth rate fell to 7.6% in February and only 90,500 children were born. Demographic expert Alexi says Russia’s birth rate in the first quarter of 2025 is the lowest after the 1800s.

Russian population continuously decreasing

Alexi is estimated to have 95,000 to 96,000 children in March this year. Thus a total of 293,000 to 294,000 children were born in the first quarter. Alexi says that the first quarter of 2025 has born the least children in the last 200 years. However, Rostat has not yet released the official figures of the month of March.

In Russia last year, 12.22 lakh children were born in 2024. This is the lowest figure since 1999. This year this figure may be lower. Russia has reduced the birth rate in the last decade as compared to a third of the last decade. Between 2016 and 2024, Russia’s population has decreased by more than 30 lakhs.

Russia will increase in Russia now!

According to Rostat, the birth rate in Russia will continue in the coming years. By the next two years i.e. 2027, this figure can fall to 11.4 lakhs. There may be a little recovery after 2030, but by 2045, the birth rate will be 25% less than 2014. It is clear that Russia will not be able to come out of it in recent times.

Experts say that even if the number of deaths is stable around 18 lakhs every year, the population of Russia will be reduced by 5 lakhs every year. According to Rostat, by 2046, Russia’s population may fall to 13.88 crores. Even the population can fall up to 13 crores. This figure will be equal to the population of the Russian Empire of 1897.
